The Effect of Changing Talker Voices on Speech Perception in Individuals with Normal Hearing

This study found that the speed and accuracy of speech recognition was significantly lower when listening to multiple changing target talkers compared to a single constant talker for sentences in noise in individuals with normal hearing.

Speech-in-Noise Difficulties in Aminoglycoside Ototoxicity Reflects Combined Afferent and Efferent Dysfunction

Despite early extended high-frequency loss, speech-in-noise difficulties in cystic fibrosis are primarily predicted by standard-frequency hearing and associated neural dysfunction.

Behavioural and Neurophysiological Correlates of Adaptation to Noise in AM Detection

This study investigated neurophysiological markers of adaptation to noise in normal-hearing adults. Behavioural amplitude modulation (AM) detection thresholds and auditory steady-state responses (ASSRs) were measured at early and late temporal positions relative to noise onset. Results showed improved AM detection and increased ASSR amplitude in the late condition, suggesting ASSRs may objectively index adaptation to noise.

Speech Perception In Noise In Individuals With Misophonia: Evidence From The Audible Contrast Threshold Test

Individuals with misophonia demonstrated significantly poorer ACT scores compared to controls, indicating impaired speech perception in noise likely driven by heightened emotional reactivity affecting central auditory processing.

Effect of Online Music‑Based Workshops on Music Perception in Older Adults with Hearing Loss

Piano learning, music listening, and discussion workshops led to significant improvements in melody, rhythm, and timbre perception among older adults with hearing loss.

Attention to Speech Modulates Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions Evoked by Speech-Derived Stimuli in Humans

Our study demonstrates that speech-like DPOAEs are significantly reduced when focusing on a target speaker in a competing speaker paradigm, revealing peripheral effects of attention.

Test–Retest Reliability of the Audible Contrast Threshold (ACT) in Young Normal-Hearing Adults

ACT demonstrates moderate-to-good test–retest reliability and strong internal consistency in young normal-hearing adults, supporting its use as a reliable, non-language-dependent clinical tool for assessing suprathreshold auditory processing and guiding individualized hearing aid fittings.

Extended High-Frequency (EHF) Hearing and Speech-in-Noise Difficulty Despite Normal Conventional High-Frequency Hearing and Preserved Word Recognition in Quiet

Extended high-frequency audiometry may help identify speech-in-noise difficulty in adults whose conventional hearing thresholds and word recognition in quiet appear normal.

Effects of stimulus degradation and attention on hierarchical auditory processing: Evidence from brainstem and cortical responses

Stimulus degradation reduces hierarchical auditory processing, with reduced pitch encoding in the brainstem while disrupting early cortical segregation (ORN) and later cortical processing (P400).

A Comparison of Speech Recognition Between Humans and Modern Machine Systems

A comparison of the performance of current industry speech recognition systems to humans on many types of distorted speech revealed that industry speech recognition systems had high correlations with humans but were superhuman in some cases.
