Webinar ‘Computational Methods in Audiology/ENT: From Precision Diagnostics to Innovative Hearing-aid Algorithms’

April 30, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm UTC+1

Free

Computational neuroscience and machine-learning to improve diagnostic methods and treatment options in Audiology/ENT.

This lecture is part of the Interdisciplinary Medicine and Health Seminars.

Guest speaker: Prof. Sarah Verhulst

Numerical methods such as computational neuroscience and machine-learning are increasingly adopted to improve diagnostic methods and treatment options. In this seminar, prof. Sarah Verhulst will provide an example as to how computational models of the auditory periphery can be used to develop robust and sensitive EEG paradigms to isolate different aspects of sensorineural hearing loss. Additionally, she will introduce how machine-learning techniques can be used to develop a new generation of hearing-aid algorithms which can serve the ever-growing population of older individuals with self-reported speech intelligibility difficulties.
