Background: Hearing loss is among the main consequences of the aging process, standing out as one of the three most prevalent chronic conditions. In order to avoid or minimize the impacts caused by hearing loss in the lives of the elderly, it is necessary to select, indicate and adapt a hearing aids. However, in the literature, difficulties are listed regarding the handling of the sound amplification device. Thus, the guidance and counseling work done during the selection and fitting periods will influence the success of the fitting, emphasizing the need for greater care and a longer period of time, considering the sensory and cognitive decline that affects the elderly population. Thus, the goal of this work is to develop a video educational material on the use and handling of different types of hearing aids in order to favor the rehabilitation process of the elderly hearing impaired.
Method: The creation process was structured in different stages: (a) preparation of the script with the contents that would integrate the videos, based on the scientific literature regarding the difficulties presented by the elderly population in relation to the use and handling of hearing aids. (b) the characteristics of the videos were listed as to framing and positioning, duration, editing and equipment. (c) recording of the scenes, narration and editing of the videos.
Results: The creation of 34 videos containing instructions on different aspects related to the use, handling and hygiene of hearing aids.
Conclusion: Video educational material on the use and handling of different types of personal sound amplification devices was developed. It is expected that these results can positively help the process of rehabilitation of the elderly with hearing impairment.
