Final Keynote Revealed: Dr. Louise Hickson

We are delighted to announce our final VCCA2025 keynote:

Dr. Louise Hickson
Professor of Audiology & Executive Dean, University of Queensland

Talk: Exploring the social connections of adults with acquired hearing loss

Professor Hickson will present findings from a longitudinal study that combines surveys, video-recorded conversations, and online Social Identity Mapping (oSIM) to examine how social connection affects hearing aid uptake. Her work underscores the human and social dimensions of hearing rehabilitation.

She has published over 290 research outputs and held leadership roles in Audiology Australia and the International Society of Audiology.

📊 New Preprint on Data Standards in Audiology

Thanks to your contributions during VCCA2024, we’re excited to share this new preprint:

“Data Standards in Audiology: A Mixed-Methods Exploration of Community Perspectives and Implementation Considerations”

By Vercammen et al. (2025)

📄 Read the preprint

Highlights:

  • 82 survey respondents from the global audiology community;
  • 91% of respondents agreed that standards in audiology are necessary;
  • 46% willing to contribute; 44% said “maybe, depending on how it works”;
  • So it’s up to our community to make it happen! 😉 Let’s keep the momentum going! 💪

Acknowledgements: Special thanks to survey participants, expert panelists, and VCCA2024 organizers.

Towards data standards in audiology – best practice examples

Antje Heinrich, Manchester, UK & Mareike Buhl, Paris, France

In their special session „Towards data standards in audiology”, Antje Heinrich and Mareike Buhl will follow up on last year’s session and explore best practice examples related to clinical data. The idea is to learn from successful examples of dealing with clinical data for research purposes, and to identify indispensable available knowledge towards audiological data standards. Invited speakers will cover topics including the exploitation of clinical data for research purposes and the special aspect of accessing free-text data.

Thank you for your continued contributions and support.

Warm regards,
The CAN Team
