As we understand more about maximising hearing assessments for people with intellectual disabilities, this presents greater clinical opportunities to provide appropriate care. What impacts might this have for individuals with intellectual disabilities and their relationship with music, speech and environmental sound? This presentation will include a brief summary of 3 recent projects looking at hearing assessment for people with intellectual disabilities; 1) Measuring gap detection in adults with Down Syndrome; (2) Two-choice audiometry in adults with Down syndrome (3) The Audiology Learning Disabilities and Autism Project (ALDAP) which involved interviews with autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities and an FOI request to Audiology departments across the UK to understand the audiological care that is being offered to autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities, and improvements that we can make.
